“The sun will no more be your light by day, nor will the brightness of the moon shine on you, for the Lord will be your everlasting light, and your God will be your glory.” Isaiah 60:19 NIV
Fireworks exploded in brilliant colors across the darkened sky scattering not only streaks of light but a sense of joy and exhilaration. As the colors dripped through the sky like melting candle was, another burst of green, gold, and blue lit up the night. Whatever weariness I had felt in the hours of waiting for the spectacular Disneyland production was erased in the light-painted sky. But the grand finale exceeded my expectations and held my breath as one white and gold burst dominoed across the sky exuding complete joy and happiness.
Later in the evening while I was reading my day’s devotional, the writer on Our Daily Bread compared the majestic colors of the Aurora Borealis to a description of God on His throne in the Book of Revelation. Jasper and ruby forming an emerald circle. He explained how there would be no need for light when Jesus comes because He will be the Light.
Recollections of the fireworks finale in shimmering white and gold streaked across my mind and a connection was made to the image of Christ as the Everlasting Light dispelling all darkness. At the same time I envisioned a beautiful bride bejeweled in pure white and joy ready to meet her bridegroom.
The joy of the grand finale was a foretaste of the shimmering light that will fill my life when Christ comes in His glory.
How can I compare a Disneyland fireworks show to the overwhelming majesty of Christ’s coming in glory? Something that was said during the final moments of the show synced with Scripture. While the announcer said that the magic would go on forever just as Disney planned, I saw the light and joy of Christ that would go on forever for those who are saved–just as God planned it.
