Observant
When I entered the world of blogging, I became more observant. Workshops informed us that if we didn’t move away from our computer desks and enter the world we lived in, it would be difficult to find subject matter about which to write. Look around and you will find a world filled with information that could speak to my heart and as well as the reader’s heart.
I took that information seriously, and began strolling our streets, looking in my backyard, looking at God’s majestic mountains and artistic cloud designs. Those times outside tuned me in to Biblical principals and Scriptures that came alive through my observations.
These lessons spilled over into my chores around the house. One evening, I was serving dinner and my hands became greasy. Before I washed them thoroughly, I picked up a brand new spring centerpiece for our kitchen table. On the clay pot which wrapped the base of the blue and yellow floral arrangement was one spot. I was upset at my rush to place the centerpiece without taking precautions to clean my hands first. Later, I was reminded that nothing we do can erase our sins. But God assures us that He removes our sins from us as far as the East is from the West. He remembers them no more.
Not only were my observation skills growing in the subject matter I was gathering, God was also filling my heart with His word and applicable lessons as I spent time with Him before writing. Observation was not only important regarding my surroundings but also in concerning my heart observations in God’s Word. Without observation in both categories, my writing fell flat.
Look around, I tell myself. Listen. Look up. Talk with friends and neighbors. Most importantly, spend time observing God and His word with your heart.

Janis, I so agree with you – writing has caused me to become more observant. There are lessons and connections all around us, waiting to be discovered so that we grow in our relationship with God and those around us.
Joanne,
Thank you for visiting. My observation techniques need to be tuned a little better these days. Hopefully, I’ll find new observations as our world changes rapidly.
From My Heart to Yours,
Janis
Oh yes, the joy of observing the world but also the need to observe our Heavenly Father!

Hi Liz,
Thank you for your visit. May your observations continue to be blessed.

Janis
Being a photographer and then an artist has made me sooo much more observant. Often I have realized I see differently and more intensely than my husband. I have always enjoyed God’s beautiful world, the nature and the scenery around me but after beginning to paint I see things in a completely different way. More details, more colors, more depth, more texture…..just more. At times I have felt “ sorry” for those who just look and don’t see. A couple of years ago I was helping and encouraging a friend to beginning drawing and such. He said he began to see things is a way he never saw before. We joked it was like a sickness…..oh the clouds! Oh look at the colors on the mountains! Oh the colors in the clouds! Oh look at the shape of the trees! And on and on…..but it is a great sickness to have! I’m thankful the Lord has given me the opportunity to pursue my art work in watercolors because it has enriched my life!
Patti, your observation skills have been expressed superbly in your artistic drawings. (I still want one.) In addition, you have given the gift of observation to your “student.” His eyes have been opened to the remarkable creations of God and the colors of the world as he learns to paint under your teaching! A double blessing.
From My Heart to Yours,
Janis
Thanks for the reminder dear friend. I don’t think I’ve been very observant lately.
Marcy, I’ve seen your observation skills at work! You notice and comment on an individual’s growth, joys, and needs. You always have encouraging words for those with whom you visit on social media or through our zoom Bible study.
Such a blessing!
From My Heart to Yours,
Janis
Janis, as long as I have known you, you have always been observant. But now as you relate your beautiful photos to scripture, shows me you are not only observant in what you see, but observant in what God is communicating with you through HIs Word…and it’s beautiful!!!
Oh, Cecelia, you warm my heart with your words about how I have observant as long as we’ve known each other. And that’s longer than I’ve known my husband! I’m encouraged to hear you say that my observations now reveal how God is communicating with me now. Thank you so much for your thoughts and words here.

Janis Van Keuren
Amen Janis, so beautifully spoken. Thank you for these great reminders, and the reminder to be mindful. Blessings.
Visiting from FMF#6
Paula,
Thank you for stopping by! Sometimes our sensory systems are overloaded with trivial information that we can’t see through the mess to observes the beauty surrounding us which God has provided. I’ll stop by and visit you.

Janis
It is really a good reminder for all of us whether we are writing or not. We should all be more observant of things around us and be teachable as well as grateful. Thank you for your insight.
Thank you, Mary, for noting that being observant and teachable almost go hand-in-hand. It’s always good to see you here.

Janis
