Time to Humble Ourselves and Pray
Today we pause in reflection and prayer for our country. This is a significant time in our country’s history with the events that have taken place this week. These events should rend our hearts even more to seek the Lord’s face in thanksgiving for His protection over our nation and His mercy upon our nation which has forsaken His sweet love for the pleasures of the world.
But let us not be quick to judge. As Christians, we also sin. This is a time of repentance. A time to ask God’s grace upon our nation and a renewal of hearts toward Him across this blessed land.
“America, America, God shed His grace on thee. And crown thy good with brotherhood from sea to shining sea.”
“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14

I am part of a prayer clock today, so that we will be offering prayers up for our country 24 hours…Praise God He hears our prayers.
Thank you for the reminder. Too often I ask things of God before humbling myself and confessing my sin.

Shanda~we all have to practice confession and repentance. It’s not a natural tendency or necessarily a practice that is taught well. The old acronym ACTS–Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, and Supplication is a good reminder of how to prepare our hearts before the Lord. Not that it has to be by rote because there are definitely times when we just need to cry out our problems before the Lord first.
I’m sorry to hear about the turn out at your church. Perhaps, a lot of people were working or were gathering elsewhere in prayer. No matter where we are or what day it is, may we offer a continual sacrifice of praise and prayer to our Heavenly Father–for our nation and many other requests.

In regards, again, to your post, I attend a church of 4500 and attended the National Day of Prayer today and there were less than 50 present. Made me sad.
oh janis, your heart is in the right place: it’s a beautiful place, and a hard one, this place of repentance. if only we would all bow and sorrow into the earth, he would lift us up and use us, like never before… that we might learn this. thank you. xo
I led the repentance prayer at our National Day of Prayer service and I couldn’t help but see the same thing; I don’t have the luxury of pointing fingers. It is the people of God, me, who should be busy building God’s kingdom and doing the assignments He gives me. I can’t blame all of “them” for the mess.
