Perseverance Posse (and Another Giveaway)

Janis Van Keuren

“A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.” (Ecclesiastes 4:12 NLT)

Peace is that One Word

Janis Van Keuren

My husband flipped over the month on the calendar this morning and I gaped in shock at how much time had passed since the beginning of the year. The beginning–the time you assess last year’s progress toward your goals, set new goals or measurements for the next 12 months~ and most importantly seek the Lord for that “Word” that speaks to His upcoming work in your life this year. In late December, as our family crossed the Colorado River on … Continue reading →

Friendship, Heritage, and a Lemon Tree

Janis Van Keuren

Climbing the hills on the Isle of Capri in Italy on a funicular, I saw them almost everywhere. Sprouting from square patches of small backyards, this fruit tree graced the hillsides of the Italian island. In what seemed like a postage-stamp-sized growing area, these garden lovers planted vegetables, herbs, colorful flowing flowers, and lemon trees. They are the Blue Ribbon plant of these Southern boot dwellers. Lemons abound in Southern Italy. Not only fresh ones in menus, gracing tables, and … Continue reading →

Meeting our Heaven-Bound Baby

Janis Van Keuren

I slid into the salon chair, hung my jacket and purse on the spur-like cowboy hook, and glanced at my long-time hairdresser in the mirror. After more than 15 years of having her beautify my hair, we never lack for conversation. Our families are at the heart of our conversation because, well, because we are mothers! Other than Jesus, is there anything closer to a mother’s heart than her family? All the

A Twist on Blog Hops Introducing Three Bloggers

Does it ever seem that the Lord has to give you a push before you participate in some writing event, conference, or opportunity before you actually show up, skid marks scrapping the floor where you just dragged your feet? It was like that when

Friendship Grows Together and Apart

Janis Van Keuren

“Hand grasps hand, eye lights eye in good friendship, And great hearts expand, And grow one in the sense of this world’s life.” Robert Browning This past week our eyes lit up as we shared laughter and learning, Pinterest kitchen delicacies and memories of a good friendship that started long ago in that far away land of California. Beth and I were editor and writer on our Christian community’s publication more than 30 years ago when life was exploding with … Continue reading →

What To Do With the Waiting

Janis Van Keuren

Earphones dangling ‘round my neck, I trekked along on the gym’s treadmill listening to Christian music when one of the songs caught my attention. The lyrics talked about waiting. An upbeat tune giving hope to times when life seems to stand still. But everything can change in a moment the young woman’s voice sang—if we just wait. Waiting. We cringe at the idea. In the midst of waiting, we count the moments. To read more about “how to survive the … Continue reading →
