Does Your Home Need Repair?

The Fam–a few years ago |
“The wise woman builds her house, but with her own hands the foolish one tears hers down.” Proverbs 14:1 NIV
It’s hard work to build a home. The love, the nurturing, the every morning breakfast, the Mom taxi, attending every recital or sporting event, mundane laundry, helping with homework, long hugs to heal the hurts inside, bedtime stories, prayers at night, twirling round the living room dance floor to lullaby music, trips to the doctor, a warm, home-cooked meal, building Lego spaceships, remembering their favorite gift on the wish list–all wrapped around kisses for Dad, talk-time, a dinner out, prayers together. And built on the solid foundation of quiet time well spent with the Lord and His Word.

Just a word, or perhaps several word, the unrighteous action or anger, and all the work comes spilling down like a deck of cards folding in on itself. Maybe the next time I’m tempted to blurt out my bitter feelings or anger at the chores not done, directions not followed, curfews broken, promises discarded, I’ll remember the hard work it took to build that home. And I will be silent.
Put a guard over my heart and mouth, Oh Lord that the meditations and words may be pleasing in your sight. For you are my rock and my refuge.
Let’ all be in the building business.

Blessings to you and your family.
This is so true Janis! How absolutely lovely to see your pictures. And that turkey!! Wow, it’s huge! lol
You look just beautiful too… and of course, I love seeing Chip (I hope it’s him lol!)
God bless you and happy WFW!
What a great verse showing us to have faith and trust in the Lord. Love the photos! God bless you and your family.
Lovely photos and sentiments you shared today. Our words can quickly tear down what has taken great time to build.
Very true and a great reminder.
Very precious.
AMEN! Janis you have LIVED the Proverbs 31 Woman’s life…it’s so evident! What a blessing it is to see these pics and read this! You were given the honor of raising someone’s husband and it’s so easy to see how you took that responsibility seriously!
This was a blessing!
peace,
lori
Wonderful pictures. Can you come cook Thanksgiving at our house? haha – that turkey looks delicious! (can you tell it’s lunch time :-))
Rachel
Janis – Your family is lovely. Do you just have the two sons? (That’s what I have).
My goodness, that looked like the most delicious turkey I have ever seen! I’m salivating! And you look so cute, too – the perfect little homemaker.
Your words were wonderful. Such a good reminder that we women hold a great influence, for good or for bad, over our families. Even though my sons are living on their own now, I am often reminded that they still listen to my words (sometimes!!) and look to my example. May I be an instrument of God’s – a righteous influence on my family.
Thanks…GOD BLESS!
I love the photos!!! I miss seeing you and your family!! But you are right, one quick lash out and the peaceful atmosphere of the home is disrupted and sad. “…Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, for man’s anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires.” (James 1:19 & 20)
Love you my friend,
Ceal
Lovely photos of the family. What a gift! Thanks so much for sharing. Blessings!
