He Defeats the Enemy

Like the gigantic lumber jack towering above our youngest son’s basketball team during a summer camp, the Lord hovers over us and looms larger than life aainst the enemy of our souls. Because our son attended a Christian High School, every game began with young men huddled in a circle, heads bowed. Prayers were lifted up for safety, strength, wisdom, godly character, and for the well being of their opponent. Yet, every young man in that group hoped to defeat their opponent–not the same as an enemy. They were out for the win.
Our enemy is not just our opponent. He is the one who comes to destroy our souls.
May we rejoice with the Israelites in Isaiah and sing praises to God because He will defeat our enemy.
“The Lord will march out like a mighty man, like a warrior he will stir up his zeal; with a shout he will raise the battle cry and will triumph over his enemies.” Isaiah 42:13 NIV
I think the Lord is calling me, “Let the desert and its towns raise their voices; Let them give glory to the Lord and proclaim his praise…” Isaiah 42:11a

Praise God, the victory has already been won…..we know the score…..we know the outcome.
Great post! I’m reminded of Ephesians 6 “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.”
amen! grateful for God’s protection over us, His children, and for winning the victory for us. praise God!
Love that image – and powerful message! Thank you!
Isaiah 42:11 is wonderful because it is relevant for all the “desert places” in our lives. Thank you for sharing that verse with us. I collect verses that encourage us to sing praises within and in spite of our desert places, so I will add that to my collection. Thank you!
