Light the Darkness
“The sun will no more be your light by day, nor will the brightness of the moon shine on you, for the Lord will be your everlasting light, and your God will be your glory.” Isaiah 60:19 NIV
Fireworks exploded in brilliant colors across the darkened sky scattering not only streaks of light but a sense of joy and exhilaration. As the colors dripped through the sky like melting candle was, another burst of green, gold, and blue lit up the night. Whatever weariness I had felt in the hours of waiting for the spectacular Disneyland production was erased in the light-painted sky. But the grand finale exceeded my expectations and held my breath as one white and gold burst dominoed across the sky exuding complete joy and happiness.
Later in the evening while I was reading my day’s devotional, the writer on Our Daily Bread compared the majestic colors of the Aurora Borealis to a description of God on His throne in the Book of Revelation. Jasper and ruby forming an emerald circle. He explained how there would be no need for light when Jesus comes because He will be the Light.
Recollections of the fireworks finale in shimmering white and gold streaked across my mind and a connection was made to the image of Christ as the Everlasting Light dispelling all darkness. At the same time I envisioned a beautiful bride bejeweled in pure white and joy ready to meet her bridegroom.
The joy of the grand finale was a foretaste of the shimmering light that will fill my life when Christ comes in His glory.
How can I compare a Disneyland fireworks show to the overwhelming majesty of Christ’s coming in glory? Something that was said during the final moments of the show synced with Scripture. While the announcer said that the magic would go on forever just as Disney planned, I saw the light and joy of Christ that would go on forever for those who are saved–just as God planned it.

I too read that devotional in Our Daily Bread! I’m not a fan of fireworks but I may rethink that the next time I see our local fireworks! You’ve given me a new perspective 🙂
So glad this post will give you a new perspective on fireworks–one that will fill your heart with light and joy! Thank you for stopping by.
Blessings,
Janis
I love the idea of Christ as the Everlasting Light! Fireworks are a great metaphor for the explosion of joy that will happen when we meet the Lord. Glad you shared this experience with us.
Thank you Constance for your thoughts about the “explosion of joy that will happen when we meet the Lord.” That’s great! I’m glad you dropped in.
Blessings,
Janis
I’m so glad you commented on my blog yesterday or I would have missed this. I absolutely LOVE Disney, and I love the connection those fireworks made. God can use anything to speak to us, we just have to be listening.
Thank you for stopping by Stephanie. I’m so glad you enjoyed this and that I heard God using that beautiful display for His glory!
Blessings,
Janis
Janis, I have loved seeing your photos of Disney 🙂 because I so love going there. You have brought out a most beautiful connection to their fireworks display. I may not be able to see fireworks without remembering this. I am so grateful we were neighbors this morning at Still Saturday. You always bless me!
Joanne, I’m glad you enjoyed those feeble photos of Disneyland’s grand fireworks display. I’m glad there was a You Tube video featuring them.
Your friendship is a blessing, Joanne. Thank you for stopping by.

Yes, Christ will be our light for eternity – No need for any other! Thanks for sharing! I’m your neighbor at #GiveMeGrace! Blessings to you!
Welcome, Gayl. Thank you for stopping in. I’m glad you enjoyed the post and related to Christ as our light for eternity!
Blessings,
Janis
It has been many years since we went to Disney Land – – but your photos were a great reminder of the beauty of those Disney spectaculars. It will be even more glorious when we view the wonders that God has prepared for us. Yes, they will last an eternity. Thank you for sharing with us here at Tell me a Story.
A lovely picture of something “secular” to create a visual for something so sacred. visiting here from “Give Me Grace”
I can hardly wait to be in heaven and have the light time of Jesus forever. I always smile when seeing the clouds, the moon, the fireworks, and more and more. When I “live” in Revelation… reading it very often… I always think of what you were sharing. I assume I’ll be in heaven soon, b/c of my body and brain issues, and I can hardly wait to see so much, see so many. And rely on the light! Thanks…
Love this! A couple years ago my word/focus for the year was LIGHT. I learned so much about God’s glory. I’m glad I linked up at SDG next to you!
I just love fireworks! But, it’s been awhile since I’ve seen them! No fireworks up here in the mountains, no sir!! One of the things that I love so much about a fireworks show is the anticipation. We see the streaking line going up in to the sky, and we joyously watch and wait for the firework to bloom in all its glory! Isn’t that kinda how we should live this life?! Waiting in anticipation for God’s glory to appear. What a finale that’s going to be!!
GOD BLESS!
I believe God creates moments such as the fireworks to teach us of His beauty and glory. It was logical that you made the connection between the finale and God because He prepared your heart to receive Him in that moment. Thank you for beautiful photos and words today.
