Time for A Review

Janis Van Keuren

Welcome Friends from 31dbbb and Readers,      Pull up a chair, sit right down, and let’s have a cup of coffee together this morning.  I am really looking forward to comments, suggestions, ideas, tips, and techniques for creating a better blog.  So here come the questions: What is your opinion of the design layout?  Do you like the borders or should I find something else to frame the sides?  Does the color complement my theme? What suggestions do … Continue reading →

Women of Faith Worship CD

Janis Van Keuren

Songs of worship piped into my ear buds lifted my soul while I stared at the computer screen, previewing Women of Faith’s newest worship CD.  Just bleeps of the songs tantalized my desire to drift away on a gentle cloud of melodic tunes.     Yes, readers.  This is my first ad.  I receive the Women of Faith Newsletter through my email and there was a contest.  The first 20 people to sign up for the CD and leave … Continue reading →

Watch a First-Time Reader Use Your Blog: Your Turn to Vote–Day 17 of 31dbbb

Janis Van Keuren

Wrote the guest post today at  http://blog.ourchurch.com/2010/05/25/31dbbb-day-17-watch-a-first-time-reader-use-your-blog/ .  My friend and neighbor, Joyce, volunteered to play guinea pig and help me with this project by reviewing my blog.  She is almost a first-time reader.  Would have been until I asked her to participate in my project.  However, she is new enough to qualify.     Joyce and I spent about a half hour together Sunday afternoon while she scoured my blog.  She used a  gentle cleaning agent.  I peered … Continue reading →

The Storm Rages

Janis Van Keuren

Google Images      The storm clouds have swirled around me, clung to me, laid damp and dreary against my chest.  I had no weather warning that a storm was brewing.  All I saw was bright blue sky dappled with feathery light clouds.     How did it arise so quickly?  How did I miss the signs?  I should have run for shelter sooner, sought the Chief Weatherman’s advice.     Now I’m cloaked in dreariness, looking for the storm to pass. … Continue reading →

Cleansing Action

Janis Van Keuren

Taco salad, chock full of meat, melted Colby/Jack cheese, torn lettuce leaves, chopped bell pepper and tomatoes, green chilies, and crowned with Fritos was on the dinner menu.  Carrying the brim-filled salad bowl to the table with my left hand, I removed the new blue and yellow flower centerpiece with my greasy-from-chips right hand.  Too anxious to devour this scrumptious entree, I had not washed my hands before juggling both items.  Thinking my prized new decor would be … Continue reading →

Just Like My Father

Janis Van Keuren

Our youngest son has been recruited by our friends to help them with some yard work at their home and rental properties.  He has always been a hard worker but is finding it difficult to land a part-time job this summer. The economy has affected everyone but especially hard-hit are college students like our son.       Last week, our friends had him heaving river rock so that stubborn weeds could be removed.  He worked 4 hours in the Arizona … Continue reading →

PLAN PLAN PLAN–Day 12 of 31 dbbb

Janis Van Keuren

I have a friend who always told me, “Plan Your Work; Work Your Plan.  Easy for her.  I am not disciplined.  A “fly by the seat of your pants” kind of person.  I feed on the spontaneity of the moment.  Then crash when I’m crunched up against a deadline.  Everyone around the house scurries to help me make my deadline when we have company coming.  And because of their generosity and love, company arrives with smiles on OUR faces! … Continue reading →
