The Super Moon

Janis Van Keuren

For a second night, the Super Moon hung in the sky beckoning us to leave behind the artificial blue lights of our technology and gaze upon real light created by the Master. Hubby and I grabbed the camera and stomped through the ankle deep, nighttime green of our grass. Pushing aside the possibility of what type of bugs my bare feet could encounter (Hubby wore flip flops), we plodded to a space against the block wall where the great beam … Continue reading →

For Where Your Treasure Is….

Janis Van Keuren

“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matthew 6:21 NIV      I thought I would simply be changing the name of my blog to “Heart-Filled Moments.” But as I chewed on this idea for a long time, it became evident to me that the Lord wanted me to change something different–the direction of my heart.      I wanted a new blog name. Something fancy. Something feminine. Something that would catch the reader’s eye and heart. The … Continue reading →

Chocolate Fudge Pie

Janis Van Keuren

On Memorial Day weekend, we had friends over for a lasagna dinner, so I wanted to serve a light dessert. (Lasagna is not typical for Memorial Day but I had an extra tray) I found a recipe online for chocolate fudge pie. It looked like a chocolate mousse with a light whipped topping. Chocolate shavings swirled across the white froth and made a delectable looking dessert.      Before posting this, I contacted “Real Simple” recipes at www.realsimple.com/food-recipes and asked … Continue reading →

The Rhythm of the Falling Rain

Janis Van Keuren

I’m writing with Lisa Jo’s Five-Minute-Friday group again. Lisa gives us a word and we have five minutes to write about it, no editing or over thinking the topic. Perfectionism goes out the window.     This week’s word was “RHYTHM.” no editing, no over thinking, no backtracking.no no editing, no over thinking, no backtracking. no editing, no over thinking, no backtracking.      GO!     When I heard the word rhythm, I thought of an old song, “Listen to the rhythm … Continue reading →

The Man Who Trusts in the Lord

Janis Van Keuren

“But blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in Him. He will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green….”  Jeremiah 17:7 and 8 NIV       It may have been Father’s Day but it felt like Mother’s Day to me. Our family was together~those of us still living here at home. We … Continue reading →

The Impossible Dream

Janis Van Keuren

To be the kind of person who would have the determination, drive, ability, and persistence to walk into another person’s life and make a powerful and positive difference was the deepest desire of my heart. Even before Jesus had come knocking on the door of my heart, I thought I could do that if I just did not give up  and continued to encourage and lead that person into a new and hope-filled life.      To live the … Continue reading →

Listen

Janis Van Keuren

Today, I’m linking with Lisa-Jo and Five-Minute Friday. In Five Minutes we are given the challenge to write on one word. Today’s word: Listen      Listen. Shh. You might scare them away. Can you hear the sounds they make as they call to each other? They are beautifully dressed with their feathery head dress. One movement, one sound, and they will flit away. We can only look with our eyes upon their beauty and not speak about it … Continue reading →

A Delectable Anniversary

Janis Van Keuren

Fondue, once a trendy dish of the 70s and 80s, is making a comeback. Last fall I prepared two fondue pots for our family shortly after our son came home on leave after boot camp. There were 5 of us hunched over an old glass-topped coffee table, also from the 70s. But it was an evening to remember. Fondue forks with tender chunks of filet piercing each other’s meat as they boiled in the fondue pot. Forks got … Continue reading →

Anytime is a Good Time to Give Thanks

Janis Van Keuren

I looked at the clock, and the hour was pushing its way into early evening. It felt like it was too late to post about the gratitudes for this week at Ann Voskamps’s Multitude Mondays. Then I realized that anytime is the right time to give thanks to the Lord, whether it fits in with the early morning announcements of many bloggers or it’s one quiet voice in the evening recalling His blessings.     This will be a short … Continue reading →

He Heals the Brokenhearted

Janis Van Keuren

“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” Psalm 147:3 NIV      The wind was whipping across the dock, chilling me to the bone. I might have been able to ignore the chill and let the warmth within me chase it away if I felt more secure about the situation surrounding me. Worrisome thoughts popped through my mind like kernels in a bag of microwave popcorn. What did this day hold? Would the relationship I cherished be as … Continue reading →
