Ahead

Janis Van Keuren

Ahead always has the connotation of preparing for something that is coming. Look ahead of your car on the road to determine if the traffic is flowing smoothly or if a dangerous situation is lurking in the traffic up ahead on the road.

Leaving the Cave for God’s Splendor

Yanking a shopping cart lose with my plastic gloved hands from the train of them stacked by the side of the store, I pushed into the grocery store prepared to hunt down my list and make a quick exit.

Unexpected Joys in the Journey

Janis Van Keuren

Traveling up the California coast, my body pressed against the molded truck seat soaking in the relaxation as my heart drank in the beauty of God’s creation along the route. Hubby and I were taking needed time off from a major project God had assigned to us.

Due to pandemic precautions, we had decided to eat at a favorite restaurant that featured outdoor seating but the fire raging in our beautiful mountains precluded that arrangement. While one of the most informal anniversary celebrations ever for us, the evening was still romantic as we toasted to the years God has given us.

When Sunday morning rolled around, we settled in for our online church service. Our youth pastor delivered a tender message

A Sense of Freedom

Refreshment, Freedom, and Love

Janis Van Keuren

Who knew a simple trip to get my hair cut and a stop at the grocery store for hamburger buns could bring so much joy and refreshment. I felt the weight of the past few months’ fear drop from my shoulders . Yes, I wore a mask and donned my fashionably plastic gloves for my errands, desperately dodging people in the aisles to keep some semblance of a six-foot distance. But I felt the weight of
