His Delight In You Will Lift and Deliver You

Janis Van Keuren

So many days were filled with fear, anxiety, and doubt. Depression wrapped me in its smothering cloak. The darkness weighed heavy with each breath. How would I ever escape the entrapment? Would I ever find joy again?      “When you hurt, go to your secret closet and weep out all your despair!” wrote David Wilkerson in a letter for his organization’s newsletter.      But I had cried from the depths of my being and I only got weaker and … Continue reading →

Overflowing Blessings

Janis Van Keuren

With Hubby’s recovery from knee replacement surgery, I’ve discovered an abundance of blessings that I have taken for granted. For example, our dog’s continual exit and entrance of the house was mostly taken care of by Hubby. The table was cleared after dinner by my man. An extra item for dinner was picked up at the grocery store on Hubby’s way home from work. These mundane, small favors all add up a basket brimming with blessings at day’s weary … Continue reading →

Finding Faith in His Delight

Janis Van Keuren

Tucked between the bed and nightstand, I braced myself for what lay ahead in my morning devotions. Would there be more doubts and struggles or would I find the rest and peace I longed for? The darkness had engulfed me for months but the Lord was re-revealing Himself to me, Scripture by Scripture; whisper by whisper.     I clung to the words I already knew He had infused into my weary spirit. Each morning I read those words I had … Continue reading →

Tightening the Belt

Janis Van Keuren

Diet shock has set in. I opened my box chock full of diet goodies. Blueberry muffins, a chocolate-mint cookie, chocolate peanut butter granola bars, mini cereal bags, prepackaged beef patties (just add water?).  It almost looked palatable until our oldest pointed out–even the dog was not sniffing the box of goodies. A tell-tale sign of diet doldrums to come.     I guess I won’t be posting any delightful recipes for a while. Unless they’re pictures from the past–those artistic, gourmet … Continue reading →

May His Treasure Pour Forth From Me

Janis Van Keuren

“But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all surpassing power is from God and not from us.” 2 Corinthians 4:7 NIV      Contemplating the new school year that begins today. Relying on the power from God to be all that my two students need and God has purposed for me to be to them.      With the start of the new school year, I have decided that the wisest choice for me … Continue reading →

A Simple Summer Treat

Janis Van Keuren

Gather the family around for game night or a fun movie and pop up this simple treat. Yes, I’m into my favorite adventure–mixing up popcorn concoctions. This one came on the back of an M & M’s candy bag. Don’t ask why I was snacking on M & M’s.      Pop your favorite brand of microwave popcorn or whip up a fresh homemade bowl. Let the popcorn cool and sprinkle one regular size bag of M & M’s (the … Continue reading →

Hubby Gets Out

Janis Van Keuren

It’s amazing how beautiful life seems when you are seeing it with new eyes. Eyes that have only seen the inside of one’s house for the last two weeks. The sky seems bluer, the trees bloom greener. Every white cloud  paints a picture. The desert heat feels refreshing against your skin. Hope fills your vision like a rainbow.    Today was Hubby’s first outing after knee replacement surgery two weeks ago. He drank in the beauty  surrounding him. Grateful to … Continue reading →

The Whale’s Tale

Janis Van Keuren

So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living and moving thing with which the water teems, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. Genesis 1:21 NIV      First sight is a spray that rises into the air. Then it curves its back, ready to dive.      The tail scoops water as it slices air and sea. This great creature of God’s design … Continue reading →

Friendship is Good Medicine

Janis Van Keuren

A Friendship Candy Bouquet        Hubby has spent the past week recovering from knee replacement surgery. Our whole focus has been medicine, sutchers, knee exercises, swelling, icing, clicking joints, and all the gore that comes with surgery.     We’ve had few visitors except the nurse and the physical therapist. And I’m grateful for both of them, their expertise and their understanding. But there’s nothing like friends for making you feel better even if you aren’t.     Tonight, our good friends brought over … Continue reading →

Raindrops and Russia and a Special Name

Janis Van Keuren

Mugginess that engulfed most of the country was breathing hard through my senses that day. With every step, it threatened to rain gloom on my outlook for the day. A promise of joy and laughter, sharing and playing was on the horizon but it was disappearing behind the clouds.     The stifling air seemed determined to choke off my delight. Then the doorbell rang and in a moment the ray of sunshine and joy standing on our … Continue reading →
